Free Will
Free Will. White Carrara marble, 80x30x30cm
The sculpture is commissioned for a private collection (Vienna, Austria).
It is a reflection of platonic philosophical ideas, and also refers to Hegel’s, SCIENCE OF LOGIC, where the goal of Spirit is Freedom. There are nine hands, symbolizing different professions and qualities: Beauty represented by musicians; Truth – by painters and scientists; Goodness – represented by religion and sculptors; Justice – represented by orators and writers. The ninth “external” Hand gives the creation power and energy to all other. The face has two sides: right (young, clear and polished) – the moment of clarity and getting the purity of knowledge from the ninth hand, and left (more rough) – symbolizing creativity and becoming, but also the failure and doubts.
