Genesis

Genesis. White Carrara marble, 85x30x35 cm

The title of this sculpture refers to the Book of Genesis, the first chapter in the Bible, which tells a story about the creation of the world. The stories of creation that are handed down across time in different cultures are important symbolic narratives which help to explain where we come from and who we are. And the story of “Genesis” is a story of something that came before, a story of meaning and memory, of the sacred.

This sculpture is my reflection on act of creation itself: transformation the material through the flow of images, which elusive essence I try to capture. Working with marble for me is discovering the potentiality of emptiness and amorphous richness of the material.
